Osteopathy

Osteopathy

Osteopathy was developed by Andrew Taylor Still, a physician and surgeon in the United States of America in the mid-1800s.

Osteopathic practitioners have an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, which they use to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions. A practitioner will look at the body and how it functions as a whole, meaning that treatments often consist of more than just working directly on the symptomatic area, as there may be other areas of the body causing the symptoms to manifest. Osteopaths use a range of techniques, including massage, joint articulation, joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, lifestyle advice and stretches, some osteopaths also use cranial and visceral techniques.
